So we have been hit with the news this week that Armstrong is now definitely out for the game against Mayo next Sunday, it’s a big loss as we now may well have to contend with Michael Meehan not winning his race to be fit on time for next Sunday also.
So who will step in and take Armstrongs place, well we can’t look beyond Mark Hehir after his exceptional form at u21 level. Perhaps, in Meehans absence it will give other players the chance to finally step up. The vital influence of Joyce cannot be underestimated to this very day and his availability is no doubt a boost to Galways cause.
It seemed when Joyce returned to the fold against Armagh in the league, it reinvigorated the Galway outfit that day and a commendable victory was the result. But we cannot hold onto him for much longer as when he steps down (sooner rather than later), what ever will happen to the county teams confidence? Id rather not even think of it.. (a bit dramatic, I know)
Meanwhile on the club front, Michael Breathnach have been thrown out of the club championship due to Mountbellew launching an objective against their club championship result in which Breathnachs fielded a uneligable player. Im sure its not the last we will hear of it, but the Gaeltacht outfit are considering their next move.
Perhaps they will boycott their players from playing football with the county? Who knows what might happen, but I know for a fact its not the end of it.
So that’s it for another day, only a week to go now til the big throw in and we must be the last team in the country to get their championship campaign underway.
Also best wishes to the hurlers tomorrow against Dublin in the Leinster semi final..
