Happy New Year!

Happy new year to one and all. In what has been a most disappointing year on the footballing front, we can atleast look ahead with optimism for 2011, as always.

Our senior footballers limped out of the Championship at the hands of Wexford after losing to Sligo in the Connacht semi final, with that Big Joe left after a dispute with the County board. For our u21 footballers, they also had a tame exit from the Championship after losing to Sligo also, in their Connacht Semi final in Tuam stadium. Our minor footballers however where without doubt our team of the year, making at all the way to the All Ireland semi final, only to lose out to Cork in a game which we could have easily won.

Now its 2011, and the changes have been rife in terms of management. Big Joe stepping down, have paved the way for Tomas O’Flahartha and minor manager role has been taken up by Kilererin man Tommie Joyce (managed/played for his local club this year and won county final, brother of Padraig). Word has it that this years Galway minor team is meant to be as strong as its ever going to be, so we will be keeping a close eye on that.

The blog itself has had a facelift in recent weeks, to the left you can see the senior football squad for 2011, with the names of all the players and if you click a name, you can see their respective pen pic (work in progress). Player stats for 2011 will also be updated, aswel as fixtures and results. First game of the season takes place Sunday week in Enniscrone as Galway face Sligo in the FBD.

Also as my earlier post stated, im looking for new lads to contribute freely and add news items to the sight about anything Galway football wise, if interested, drop of line at galwaygaablog@hotmail.com

All the best everyone and happy new year!
