Draw was made in the Claregalway hotel hosted by well known voice of the Gaeltacht  Seán Ban Breathnach. Some interesting tie both cropped up in Intermediate and Senior. Claregalway will go in against Salthill with every bit of optimism that they can pull off a result and I would not bet against them after the players they have inherited during the close season. They have got the Mayo men and young Hansburry who played for Kilererin, they will no doubt be formidable opposition come championship time. County final runner’s up Mountbellew Moylough will be out to prove a point against Kilererin, ironically both teams where knocked out of the chmampionship by the same oposition last year.. Corofin. The county Champions have been handed a tough assignment against last seasons A league winners Corton Shamrock’s who possess some fine players including David Ward, Derek Savage and Michael Martin.

Tuam Stars and Annaghdown also go head to head, the two teams met in the 1st round of the Championship last year also, with Tuam coming out on top after extra time. This Tuam side played good football last year, I remember there fine victory against Michael Breathnachs in the 2nd round of the championship, they played great football that evening with players like Jamie Murphy on show who will have to be at his very best again this year. Annaghdown, some might say overachieved last year making it to the quarter final of the Championship, where they lost out to Mountbellew- Moylough, with players like Niall Coleman, Mathias Coleman and Frankie Burke it looks like that will be a cracking match. So for me, that match will be the game of the 1st round.
