Galway start with a win.

And so the new year of inter-county football action begins. It may have been a week late but the FBD League is finally underway. Galway yesterday bet Sligo in the 1st round of games. The game took place in Tuam Stadium where Galway ran out deserved winners, 0-11 to 0-05. Nicky Joyce played well and grabbed 7 points while Claregalway man JP O’Connell got one, Fiachra Breathnach, Eoin Concannon and Declan Meehan added the other score. It was good start for Galway but the progress was brought to a halt when Miltown man Darren Mullahy was taken off with a suspected broken collarbone. A heavy challenge seen Mullahy come off the worst and is now expected to be out until April at the earliest. I would like to wish Darren a speedy recovery and hope he will be back in county action as soon as possible. It must be noted that the new full back line of Donal O’Neill, Jamie Murphy & Eoin McDonagh played well and it will cause some selection headaches for Joe, Tom and Seán O for Leitrim on Sunday.

In other FBD League results Mayo beat NUIG 11 points to 9, Galway man, Sean Armstrong pulled of an impressive tally of 7 points and Sligo IT surprisingly beat Roscommon by a point. The other Galway team in action was GMIT who drew with Leitrim 1-11 to 14 points.

Just a reminder that the squad stats and results have been updated!
